| The AWIS Career Development Award |

The San Diego Chapter of AWIS sponsored the Career Development Award. The Career Development Award was designed to assist AWIS San Diego members who are re-entering the work force or changing their career focus. Past winners have transitioned into careers in science writing, regulatory affairs, and clinical research. This $1000 award may be used for the following aspects of continuing education: courses, training seminars or conferences aimed at learning new skills to transition into a field within the science and technology workplace. The award must be used for tuition, registration fees, software, or books. The last award was presented at the 2010 AWIS Open House. Eligibility: Applicant must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident, a current member of the AWIS San Diego Chapter, and a San Diego County resident. Full-time students are not eligible for this award. Gross annual salary cannot exceed $60,000. Please check back here for the announcement of the next Career Developement Award.

Anita Iyer

Anita received her B.A. in Biology and Music (piano performance) from Scripps College, Claremont, CA in 2001, and her Ph.D. in Human Genetics from UCLA in 2006. Tamera is an Intellectual Property attorney at the international law firm of Jones Day and earned her law degree from Georgetown University. Her legal practice includes domestic and foreign patent portfolio development, management and enforcement in all areas of biotechnology.

Marianna graduated with a B.S. from Tel-Aviv University , Israel and got her PhD from Weizmann Institute of Science, Israel in 2004. She also holds MSc in Science Management from Polytechnic University of New York.
