AWIS is a national organization dedicated to achieving equity and full participation of women in science, mathematics, engineering and technology. Founded in 1971, national AWIS serves as a network, a resource, and a voice to achieve this goal.
AWIS-SD also believes in being active in our community. Each year, the Scholarship committee awards several scholarships to young women who are pursuing a science career. Additionally, members can choose to actively contribute to the development of young women scientists by participating in our outreach events. The Outreach committee coordinates several programs each year, these range from judging science fairs, to one-on-one mentoring. AWIS is a nonprofit, tax-exempt organization under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code. Donations are tax-deductible as allowed by law. Our mailing address:

Linda Manza
Secretary
Linda received a Ph.D. in Pharmacology and Toxicology from the University of Arizona, Tucson, a M.S. in Toxicology from San Diego State University, Graduate School of Public Health, and a B.A. in Biological Sciences and Chemistry from the University of California Santa Barbara, College of Creative Studies.

Outreach Co-Chair
Julie received her B.S. in Molecular and Cellular Biology in 2003, from the University of Arizona. After a year off, during which she continued research as a technician in her undergraduate lab, she ventured to the mid-west to persue graduate school. In 2009, Julie received her Ph.D in Cellular and Molecular Biology from Michigan State University.
Marianna Tcherpakov
Events Co-chair
Marianna graduated with a B.S. from Tel-Aviv University , Israel and got her PhD from Weizmann Institute of Science, Israel in 2004. She also holds MSc in Science Management from Polytechnic University of New York.
